A fork in the fence

Things at work are going kind of strange. My coworker has given his notice, and that seems to have finally struck a nerve with management as far as people jumping ship. I dunno.

Anyway, this weekend, I finally went and got something I've been wanting to get for quite some time. A nice digital camera. So some images are finally going to find their way into this multimedia journal. In fact, I'm going to start it out by posting something I see every day on my way to work. A fork in the fence, and a scene used in the filming of America's Most Wanted. Makes the walk to the car kind of... interesting.

At any rate, I am getting tired. Went to Dad's after work today, and did not get home until late. I invited the 'rents over for dinner tomorrow night. Nana may join too. Should be fun.

Thanks for letting me know. (I haven't done any mainframe/midrange stuff for about 4 years now though) I might have something permanent lined up in PBG after almost 20 months of spotty temp. work. Everyone is holding their purse strings very, very tight in sales/purchasing and hiring. (I know from experience in both areas) The so called recovery seems to be nowhere in sight.

Well, they hired someone to fill the empty spot. Not the one that just emptied, but the other one from my boss. They decided there will be no systems lead, but rather three admins. I was told that I would be getting the "Jr." dropped and what not soon as well. We'll see just how well they value me there. If I am not happy with it, I will vocalize how I see what my percieved worth is to them. I do not play games like offer-counteroffer with salaries. When and if I take another offer, that's it - I wouldn't take a conteroffer for many reasons - most important that I would not want to work for someone who thinks I strongarmed them into more pay. We'll see what happens. Thanks... Also, I'll let you know if I hear of any mainframe slots opening up!

I've been through the IT wringer many times as I am bit older than the rest of the gang. That's how I knew. They will see how long you wait and do a Mexican standoff with you. If they are smart, they will blink first.

Hey! How did you know I was the last one left in the department? heh.. True, true. And it's been quite interesting. I should look into securing the movie rights.

No kidding. At lot has been going on since then, and it seems to finally be opening eyes that NOONE is happy in IT there. He was also a liazon to another project involving WebSphere. Now, they will need me to be that team's point of contact. That, and since my direct boss had also jumped ship a few weeks ago, I have been obviously picking up a little bit of the slack so to speak. So much so that I feel that I have had managerial duties and responsibilities as a Jr. admin. And come to think of it, I am the ONLY Junior I have seen in the entire place! Ever badge I see says Sr. or nothing.

I did have a little talk with them, and they know right well that I am seeking a better position. And they kind of get the gist that I am quite capable of the added responsibilities and tasks. Furthermore, they may have picked up on the fact that I have been happy doing so in light of the fact that I want to be moved up - and having someone hired over me would mean I cease all "extra" efforts. When asked about a new candidate, all I had to say was "looks great, but I see the position is for a Sr. admin". If they want to hire someone above me again - so be it. I will be sure to do less than the newbie who would not be familiar with our systems yet.

Should things not pan out as so, and I am not happily ecstatic about the new arrangements, I hope to have a little suprise of my own prepared by then.

The last one left in your department? Good gravy! The next month or so will be interesting to say the least with the intersection of your review and the other guys jumping ship like lemmings. My guess is that they will either throw cash at you and/or offer you a sr. position. (The other possibility is not pleasant, hiring a know nothing above you. I have been in this situation and its very unpalatable)
