Weekend Reprise
It was a good weekend. Good indeed. Friday night was a long night at work. I did not get out of work until 9pm. Something happened, and I needed to be around. So, anyway, after that, I went home, and actually felt a little lonely in the fact that I was too late to join in on the normal Friday night activities I usually do. But, as things worked out, they just went to dinner, and after that Sean and Brain came over to watch The Matrix. It was good. The next day, I got to sleep in. When I woke up, I started laundry, and got a call from Chris, who I hadn't seen in quite some time. He invites me over for lunch, so I get there, and Spec was also there. So, we had some fun with the computers (I brought my laptop), and BBQing lunch and dinner. We also watched "Down With Love". Don't ask me why. At least it was (interestingly) good. After Spec went home, I stayed behind until nearly 4am, and we got a chance to catch up and reminise over highschool. It was fun. Sunday, I woke up around Noon, and Dad wanted me to pick him up a few things at the Home Deopt. So, I do that, and head over to his place. Soon after that, I leave and pick up Sean, so we can take another crack at rollerblading. After that, I come home to a regime of yardwork, then start setting up a machine to backup my fileserver. It is still running now, and probably will be all night. But at least I do not plan to be, as I would like to get some sleep before I have to wake up and start the weekly grind all over again. Tomorrow looks busy already. Going to fix another computer after work already. So, I hope to get home before 9pm. We'll see... Today's rollerblading went MUCH better than the last two failed attempts. The new blades were wonderful. I ended up doing two laps, which translates to approx. 9.5 miles. The time I tried a few months ago, I only made it about half way before I said I just could not go any further, and I made Sean finish, and then pick me up at the other side. But, this was with the old blades. They were KILLING my feet! The last time, last week, I only made it no more than a mile before I decided to turn back. Again, my feet were about to fall off. That's when I went to get the new blades. Today, I finally got to give them a workout. MUCH nicer. I got to about the 1/4 lap point, where there is a rest bench and water fountain. I still had to stop, as my feet were still hurting. It turns out that I had the blades on WAY too tight, and they were squeezing my feet to death. It dosen't help that my feet are so wide, they were getting squished in there. After loosening up the laces, making a looser fit, it was MUCH more comfortable. No real problems after that. Even going against the wind, at least it felt good since the temperatures were between 85' and 90'. I can't wait until better weather soon. After the first lap, we sat at the benches with the (chilled) water fountain at the start, and decided to do a second lap, only a more leisurely paced one. I was game for that, and it went much better. I think this will turn out to be a good things for me. I certainly did not expect to start out doing two laps right away. But I have done this before, a long time ago. Both by blade and bike. I don't think I ever bothered with a second lap though. I would rather do one double length run, instead of revisiting the same scenery. I'm also glad I didn't wipe out at all. My only tripup was on the second lap, I stopped at the remote water fountain again, not to sit, but for some water, but I had trouble stopping and ended up crashing into the bench, and falling on it face first - laying down on it. In fact, that was the only stop on the second lap. I also need to get good headphones for my Walkman. It does not have very much volume. After all this, I was pretty tired. But, when I got home, I did not make it past my kitchen before I went back out and started some yardwork. I had trimmed the hedges all over the house - not just the bushes around the air handler, but all the shrubbery. It was getting a little overgrown. I did, however, leave the ficcus hedge in back for another day. That's a big project in its own. Then, I mowed and edged with the weedwacker. Then, I had to rake all the crap up. Fun fun. But at least the yard looks good. I will also feel better tomorrow when I know that my file repository on the sick server is at least backed up to another physical drive. I am tired of losing data. There is also enough space on that drive to make a full backup of the entire server, so that's going to be the plan - since this IS the backup server, not getting backed up. All in all, this was a good weekend, and I think it went pretty well. Back to the grind!
