A welcome getaway

This last weekend, at the beginning of August, I got a much needed getaway from the everyday here. But now, it is over, and I find myself tired, yet very refreshed from this diversion from the norm. Unfortunately, no pictures were taken, again making the point of keeping a multimedia journal a bit moot. Perhaps, soon, I will be able to get that nice small digital camera so I can start taking photos to put here regularly. Until then, I hope to start using it more for less stunnig entries such as this, with no eye candy... Anyway, did I mention I was tired? Read on for the details...

Fri nite, after running around all day trying to get things done with computers I had built and what not (mostly, I already forgot, thank goodness!), I had driven over and up to the Tampa area. I love to drive. Just driving off into the emptiness of the Florida Everglades is enough to put the mind at ease. No GPS tracking this time - last time I just ended up blowing a power inverter. Too much of a hassle. Besides, it is nice to just detatch and go with the flow too. After a few hours worth of driving, and a little detour around the sports arena or whatever it was, I got to where I was going. I had a wonderful time up there. And I do reccommend American Wedding to anyone who has seen the first Pie movies. Sunday morning, I reluctantly had to leave (yes, folks, I DID say morning) back towards home to help a friend move. Yet another beautiful drive with absolutely beautiful weather, feeling great. Unfortunately, after skipping like mad in my evil CD player, my greatest of CD of Fleetwood Mac decided to jump out of the window at 80MPH! woops... A quick glance out the rearview mirror helped the decision on weather or not to try to reclaim it from I-75, as it had shattered into about a thousand little sparkly pieces. Ah, well... Good thing I have a "backup" here at home! Anyway, a nice drive, nice weather. That is, until I get back into town. More heat and wicked humidity. Ugh! Just in time to go straight to a friend's place to help move. No more helping people move in the summertime. 'Nuff said about that. Finally, I get home, shower, and jump online to catch up on mail. Promptly, I passed out in front of the monitor and decided to give in and jump in bed. Woke up again later to see a nice message on my screen and saw that I am not the only tired one around...

I may be tired, but I feel good.

Have you checked out Wal*Mart or Compoosa? There are some digital cameras that are quite cheap. Then again, you do get what you paid for.

The major problem I have with my digital camera (Olympus D-550 Zoom, which I think is now discontinued) is speed—getting a candid shot is pretty much an impossibility (unless the candid opportunity lasts for about 10 seconds). It is also way too easy to get blurred shots with a digital camera (mostly in low light situations) but a tripod can correct that problem.

I do have a digital video camera that I can take stills off of, but I would only use that for when I want to make a production out of something... What I am looking for is a small camera to tote around for the snapping of opportune images at any time. The camera is too large and bulky for that. Besides, I didn't want to have to worry about the camera or anything on this trip...

Don't you have a video camera that can do stills?
